Vanaja Sarna has been appointed as CBEC’s new Chairman

a)  The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has appointed Vanaja N. Sarna.
b)  Mrs. Vanaja has replaced Najib Shah who retired from the post.
c)  Earlier she held the charge of Director General of Vigilance, also she had the post of Chief Vigilance Officer of the Department.

 

Kanha tiger reserve –  1st place in India to get official mascot

a) The Kanha National park in fact the tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh has introduced its official mascot.
b) ‘Bhoorsingh the Barasingha’ has been chosen the name of the mascot .
c) Barasingha is also called swamp deer which is considered as the  State animal of Madhya Pradesh.

 

World Health Day: 7 April 

a) The World Health Day is observed on 7th of April every year.
b) This day marks the anniversary of the founding day of the World Health Organisation.
c) The theme of the year 2017 World Health Day is ‘Depression: Let’s Talk’.

 

World Autism Awareness Day: 2nd April 2017

a) 2nd April is observed as World Autism Awareness Day worldwide.
b) This year the theme for the day is “Toward Autonomy and Self-Determination”.
c) This day is observed to encourage awareness about children with autism.
d) Autism is a neurological condition that is observed among children at an early stage.

 

PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates Asia’s longest tunnel 

a) The Asia’s Longest tunnel has been inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
b) The name of the tunnel is 9.2 km.
c) The name of the tunnel is Chenani-Nashri all-weather road tunnel.
d) Chenani-Nashri tunnel is on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
e) This road tunnel will decrease the travelling time between  Jammu and Srinagar by almost two hours.
f) Tunnel made is 2-lane tunnel and is Asia’s longest bi-directional highway tunnel.
g) which will cut the distance between Jammu and Srinagar to around 250 km from the current 350 km.
h) Chenani-Nashri is the world’s 6th road tunnel and has a transverse ventilation system enabled which is controlled by ABB software.
j) Several Other features are Integrated Traffic Control System (ITCS), Video Surveillance System, FM Rebroadcast System, Entrance Detection Control System and Active Firefighting System.
i) The tunnel posses 124 closed-circuit TV cameras for surveillance.

19th commonwealth forestry conference to begin in Uttarakhand today

a) Recently The 19th Commonwealth Forestry Conference (CFC) 2017 took place at Forest Research Institute (FRI) in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
b)  At the conference was present Uttarakhand Governor Dr. K.K. Paul who  inaugurated the 19th Commonwealth Forestry Conference venued at Dehradun.
c)  The theme of the 5-day conference is  ‘Forests for Prosperity and Posterity’.

PV Sindhu Clinches India Open badminton title 2017

a) India’s leading badminton Player and Olympic silver-medallist P.V. Sindhu thrashed Carolina Marin (Spain) in straight sets 21-19, 21-16 in 47 minutes at the India Open badminton championship 2017.
b) The venue of the tournament is New Delhi.
c) PV sindhu entered the final after thrashing Saina Nehwal and Sung ji-Hyun.

Indian Cricketer MS Dhoni named CEO of Gulf Oil for a day

a) The former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni was sworn in as the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gulf Oil India for a day.
b) He was appointed as CEO for Gulf Oil India at the Mumbai head office.
c) The Wicket Keeper -Batsman Mahe was also named as the brand ambassador for Gulf Oil in the year 2011.

64th National Film Awards

a) The 64th National Film Awards were announced recently and in which the Directorate of Film Festivals presents its annual National Film Awards to honor the best films of the year  2016 in the Indian cinema.
b) The Event of awards ceremony will be held on 3 May 2017 in India.
