     ‘100 Million for 100 Million’ campaign’

    1) The famous campaign of Kailash Satyarthi “100 Million for 100 Million” was launched by President Pranab Mukherjee Recently.
    2) The campaign aims at curbing the child slavery, child labour and violence against children.
    3) The Campaign was  organised by The Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation.

    Indo-Russian  Naval Exercise “Indra “- 2016 

    1.  Indian Navy and Russian Navy conducted the Joint Naval Exam on 14th of December 2016.
    2. The name of the exercise is “Indra Navy”.
    3.The Venue of the exercise was Bay of Bengal.
    4. The Span of the exercise is 7 days (From 14th december to 21st december).
    5. Exercises are conducted  to enhance the inter-operability between the two navies.
    6. Also the exams aims for common understanding of maritime security operations.
    7. For the first time, this maritime exercise between India and Russia was held in 2003.

     Lucky Graahak Yojana 

    1) The Central Government has recently announced to launch a ‘Lucky Graahak Yojana’.
    2) The Government has also launched a ‘Digi Dhan Yojana’ in order to encourage digital payments or cashless payments .
    3) These Schemes  will be launched  from 25th Dec till April 14, 2017.
    4) Under this scheme 7,000 weekly awards and a maximum award of Rs 50,000 each for merchants will be awarded.

    1. Malaysia has appointed its 15th king named as Sultan Muhammad V.
    2. The Event took place in Kuala lumpur.

    New Words added to Oxford Dictionary


    1. This time the Oxford Dictionary has added a word “BREXIT”.
    2.The BREXIT refers to “The Exit of Britain from European Union”.
    3. Another Word added was ‘GREXIT’. It refers to exit of Greek from European Union which was hypothetical.
    4. About 1,500 new words and phrases are added to the Oxford English Dictionary.
    5. Another phrase added is ‘Get your freak on’ (sexual activity, especially unconventional)


    Rio Gets UNESCO World Heritage Status


    1. The Famous City of Brazil Rio de Janeiro officially has entered into the UN’s list of world heritage sites.
    2.The status was given by  UNESCO – the cultural body of UNITED NATIONS.
    3.  The city is famous for its soaring granite cliffs, urban rainforest and beaches.

    The plant is of 1000 MW.

    It is based on the Nuclear fuel rich in “Uranium”.

    She belongs to North Eastern State of Manipur.

    Canyons are found on Titan By ‘Cassini’ which is Nasa’s spacecraft.

    The finding of canyons on Titan is the First Sign of presence of ‘Liquid Hydrocarbons’.

    The canyons are observed to be about 100-150 meters deep.

    1. India joined the club of MTCR (Mission Control Technology Regime) on 27th June, 2016, which enables India to deal in high-end Mission technology.

    3. India became the 35th member of the missile control regime.

    Education programme – Chunauti 2018



    1. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced an education programme – Chunauti 2018 on 29th June, 2016.
    2. The primary objective of Chunauti 2018 is to improve the quality of education keeping in view on weakest students.
    3. According to this scheme, class 6th to 9th will be framed in a programme in order to check on a dropout rate of students.
    4. According to the previous statistical data, 44% of students failed in class 9th in 2013 while in 2014-15, 48.26% number of students failed of 9th standard and 49.22% in 2015-16.
    5. Government has planned to focus on weak and dropout students by providing “No detention policy” (NDC) – due to which students will pass till 8th standard.
    6. For 9th standards, norms are quite different as the students have no NDC policy so the government will hire more number of guest teachers for them.
    7. As per the scheme, government will enable principals to hire plenty of teachers.
    8. The aim of the programme chunauti 2018 that all the students enrolled in the 9th standard in the academic year 2016-2017, will be trained guided to appear for class 10th examinations.

    Indian Origin based – Tejas Jet Aircraft



    1. State-run  Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will deliver first two Light Combat Tejas aircrafts to Indian Air Force which will make up the flying daggers 45 on 1st July, 2016.
    2. Homemade Tejas aircraft has been in process of making for three decades, the Government cleared the paperwork of this project in 1983.
    3. Tejas was designed by Defence Research and Development Organisation(DRDO)with a speed of 1.4 Mach.
    4. Tejas is single seat, single engine, lightweight, highly-active supersonic fighter, which can fly 2300 km distance. It can about 25,00 kg of fuel and can be refuelled mid-air
    5. The LCA squadron induction ceremony will be held at the Aircraft System Testing Establishment on 1st July, 2016 in the presence of Air Marshal Jasbir Walia.
    6. The Indian Air Force Station ordered 40 Tejas aircraft, in which 20 Tejas Mk1 and 20 Tejas Mk 2 out of which 20 will be manufactured according to IOC standards while rest will be developed as per FOC configurations.
    7. HAL is planning to increase production up to eight and 16 aircraft each year.

    12-feet long statue of Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar



    1. A 12-feet long statue of Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar was brought from Tamil Nadu to Haridwar on 30th June, 2016.

    3. It will be handed over to tarun vijay BJP MP and also the president of students and youth of thiruvalluvar movement.

    1. An inscription on kapalikas which is about 1000 year old was discovered recently.
    2. The inscription was discovered in raichur district of karnataka.
    3. It is based on Bhairava idol.
    4. It is discovered by a professor of kannada university, Hampi.
    5. This inscription is very rare and it is for first time that we have sources in this field.
    6. Kapalikas were the clan who practised human sacrifice.
    7. They also practised immolation.

    First three women fighter pilots

    National News:-

    GST(Goods And Services Tax) Bill


    1. The Ministry Of Finance on 14th June, 2016 released the draft of the GST(Goods And Services Tax) bill.
    2. Minister of State and Finance Jayant Sinha said that if GST bill would be passed in Monsoon session then government is expecting it to implement from 1st April, 2017.
    3. GST introduced in Lok Sabha as 122nd constitutional amendment bill, 2014. And it was introduced by Arun Jaitley.
    4. GST is single taxation system and the main reason behind imposing this system is to abolish all indirect taxes.
    5. GST is a consumption based levy. It is collected on value-added goods and service at each step of sale purchase in the supply chain.
    6. Government is opting for Dual System GST and this system component will have two components which will be called as – Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST) and State Goods and Service Tax (SGST).
    7. CGST includes Excise tax, service tax, custom duty, surcharge tax and cess etc while SGST comprises entertainment tax, VAT, luxury tax, purchase tax, state cess and surcharge and other state taxes.
    8. Center and state have equal legislative powers although centre may impose Integrated Goods and services tax.

    President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to Africa


    1. President Pranab Mukherjee was greeted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 12th June, 2016 as he was going for a six-day visit to Africa to promote trading agreements.
    2. President had a three african countries in his list to visit i.e. Ghana, Ivory Coast and Namibia.
    3. President Pranab Mukherjee and Ghana President John Mahama in Accra signed three bilateral agreements to strengthen co-operation in various units on 13th June, 2016.
    4. On 13th June, 2016 President Pranab Mukherjee was paying the tribute to the first Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah at Kwame Mausoleum in Accra.
    5. Pranab Mukherjee was honoured by Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara with the National Order of the Republic of Ivory Coast in Abidjan on 14th June, 2016.
    6. On 16th June, 2016, President Pranab Mukherjee met Namibian President Hage Geingob during reception at the State House in Windhoek, University of Namibia.

    Paris climate Deal


    1. On 15th June, 2016, French President Francois Hollande gave a confirmation to the UN about Paris climate deal.
    2. Paris agreement is an agreement within United nations framework.
    3. It deals with greenhouse gases and environmental issues.
    4. It was adopted on 12th december 2015 and opened for consent of other countries on 22nd April, 2016(On Earth Day).
    5. Around 177 countries have signed the agreement.
    6. It is an initiative for environment and the primary goal of Paris agreement is to reduce global warming below 2 degree celsius.
    7. This climate agreement is due to come in action in 2020.

    Microsoft signed a $26.2 billion deal with Linkedin


    1. On 13th June, 2016, Microsoft signed a deal with Linkedin to buy it with a worth of $26..2 billion.
    2. Microsoft  will take possession at $196 per share from linkedin.
    3. The present CEO of linkedin Jeff Weiner will now report to Satya Nadella .
    4. This is the biggest deal for Microsoft in the Satya Nadella’s tenure till now and marked as the largest acquisition in the history.

    Consumer Price Index

    1. Consumer Price Index rose to 5.76% in May, 2016 from 5.39% in April, 2016
    2. In the past 21 years, this was the highest ever recorded value of CPI.
    3. This was mainly on account of price rise of food and beverages and specifically vegetables and pulses.
    4. For the month of may the retail inflation was 5.47% as per Central statistics office (CSO).The vegetable price inflation for the month of may rose to 10.77%.
    5. In may the inflation rate for pulses increased to 31.57%.
    6. As far as cereal products inflation  is concerned , it increased to 2.59%.

    National Pension Scheme(NPS)

    1. The Central Government announced on 17th June, 2016 that NRIs are allowed to open online accounts in National Pension Scheme(NPS).
    2. The national pension scheme(NPS) accounts can now be opened through online mode for non -resident Indians (NRIs).
    3. Aadhaar or PAN card is mandatory for NPS scheme.
    4. Now, The Paper -based applications can only be submitted to banks by NRIs.
    5. A subscriber will be able to open an e-NPS account from the comfort of his home.
    6. Only Internet connection will be required and Aadhaar card/PAN card number.
    7. NRIs can open this account on both repatriable and Non-repatriable basis
    8. In repatriable basis,NRIs have to remit  the amount through NRE/FCNR/NRO account.
    9. In Non-repatriable basis NRIs will be able to join NPS through NRE/FCNR/NRO and at the time of maturity, the NPS funds would be deposited only in their NRO accounts.
    10. These issues are regulated by PFRDA (Pension Fund Regulatory and Developed Authority).
    11. Around 29 million NRIs live in over 200 countries.

    1. The Cavaliers players Kyrie Irving and LeBron James became the first teammates who cracked 40 points in the same final match and scored more than any players in NBA final match in 20 years.
    2. The players Kyrie Irving and Lebron James  became the first team-mates to score 41 points NBA Championships. This was for the first time in the history of NBA.
    3. The golden state team cavaliers won the series by 3-2 .
    4. The team mates were banned for one game based on accumulation of class.

    Ashutosh Pednekar – won the International sports of racketlon tournament


    1. Cdr. Ashutosh Pednekar of Indian Navy became the first Indian to participate and won the International sports of racketlon tournament.
    2. Racketlon tournament refers to the combination of four sports which are played with racket. .
    3. These Sports are Table tennis, badminton, squash and lawn tennis.
    4. The tournament was held at Denmark and Belgium.
    5. Cdr. Ashutosh Pednekar won gold medal in amateur category of racketlon tournament.
    6. He also won  gold  in Veterans (45-plus) category.
    7. The Nordic Racket games was held on may 28-29.
    8. The venue of  Nordic Racket Games was  Vejen, Denmark.

    1. Indian fashion design student Madhura Kulkarni of the Birmingham city university in U.K has developed an LED emoji-enabled bag.
    2. Madhura Kulkarni won the global Handbag designer Awards for her innovation
    3. The basic concept of this emoji enabled bag is to initiate verbal conversation between two people with the help of LED emojis.
    4. Madhura is the student of fashion designing at the University’s school of Fashion and Textiles.
    5. Ms. Kulkarni’s design caught international attention in the two-week celebration of creative talent and graduating students festival.
